Christmas Magic at Bettys

Bettys Harrogate at Christmas

Being from York, I’ve always had a big appreciation for the magic of Bettys. I mean, people queue for hours to get in there in the pouring rain, so growing up I knew it was something special. Bettys is so much more than a tearoom, it’s an experience.

I was invited to their Harrogate branch to enjoy their Lady Betty Afternoon Tea, see their Christmas product range, hear more about how they create the magic and to learn about the ultimate Christmas table settings. I don’t think anyone will be surprised to hear that they do Christmas so incredibly well. We walked into the Imperial Suite, which is tucked away upstairs, and the true scent of Christmas hit. The real Christmas tree, decorate with gingerbread biscuits, dried oranges and cinnamon bundles on the table, and so much more. It was simply stunning.

We began with the Lady Betty Afternoon Tea which is so much more special than your average afternoon tea as there is an extensive tea menu (I went for china rose petal) and you have two small plate starters before your afternoon tea stand is brought out. The afternoon tea consists of three types of sandwiches, two types of scone and six varieties of cakes to share between two. It was simply stunning. The care and attention to detail is second to none – Bettys is about the experience as well as the food. The staff are fantastic, the pianist adds ambiance and nothing is too much trouble for them.

Photos definitely speak louder than words for this event, but the full Christmas range for Bettys is available here and if you’d like a nosy at the afternoon tea menu, you can do that here. Bettys is truly magical at Christmas so if you’re planning a reunion with your friends from school or want to do something special with your mum, head to York, Harrogate, Ilkley or Northallerton and visit them. Nothing will make you feel more festive than being in Bettys at this time of year.
