What’s Cooking – Liverpool

What's Cooking Liverpool Albert Dock

As many of you well know, I’m all about supporting independent businesses and having discovered this little gem a few weeks ago, I thought it really does deserve a shout out.

I was in Liverpool over the bank holiday for the marathon weekend as I take my role of chief bag holder for various runners very seriously. My mum and I make excellent race supporters don’t you know.

My sister and I headed over on the Friday night as we both had the ‘warm up’ 5k race on the Saturday morning – I saw ‘warm up’ yet what I actually mean is the extent of my running for the weekend. We were in the Albert Dock area after going to pick up our race packs and came across What’s Cooking, an independent bar and grill.

Drawn in by the £5 mojito menu, we managed to get a table outside in the evening sunshine and ordered a couple of drinks as one can’t hurt, right? I decided to go for the burrito whereas Charl went for the healthier option of  grilled Cajun salmon and vegetables.

Needless to say, the burrito was about the size of my head (which is saying something), and was absolutely delicious. It was full to bursting with chicken, Mexican rice and peppers and topped with cheese. We were both really pleased to have stumbled across What’s Cooking, especially as there are so many chain restaurants in Liverpool. It’s the kind of place which as an independent offers something a bit different, especially as we were sat out in their courtyard. Being able to sit and eat outside really lifts my mood (despite my usual aversions to anything outdoorsy) as it’s such a novelty in the UK.

If you’re heading to Liverpool, I highly recommend ditching the chain restaurants and trying What’s Cooking (which is what we did as we cancelled a booking at a chain Italian to go there!). Given they’re located on the Albert Dock, the menu is really reasonably priced for both food and drinks! I’ve had a bit of a Google since going and found out that they’re the longest standing restaurant on the Dock and also use local suppliers – which is a massive yes from me.

Are you heading to Liverpool soon? Let me know if you try What’s Cooking.
