The Macmillan Royale

One of my good friends from way back when (no exaggeration, our parents were living over the road from each other before we were even born), had taken on a pretty damn crazy challenge of raising £10k in ten years for the incredible charity, Macmillan. Katie, despite working full time, put on a charity ball in York in aid of the charity to help her towards her target and of course, I knew I had to buy a ticket and be there to support her.

When I arrived, I couldn’t believe the effort which had gone into the event. We’re talking a photobooth, photographers walking around, a guy doing magic, a band, DJs and a massive table of homemade cupcakes. It was also incredible to see everyone so dressed up too. I’d gone for a shorter beaded dress but there were plenty there in absolutely stunning ball gowns.

On the night there was a charity auction, a raffle and casino games, all there to tempt us to part with our cash for the cause. Katie sourced signed photos from tonnes of celebrities which went in the auction and were for sale – my mum came away with signed photos of Mary Berry, James Martin and Paul Hollywood which will be appearing in her kitchen within the near future. I was lucky enough to win some prizes in the raffle (including a Costa takeaway mug which my sister has since nicked off me).

I’m going to leave this here with some photos from the night but if you’d like to hear more about Katie’s challenges, check out her Just Giving page. She’s already done the York 10k, the Great North Run, the Great North Swim (which was in an actual lake, containing creatures) and Tough Mudder. She’s already hit her 2016 target and she’s well on the way to absolutely smashing it over the next 10 years. I couldn’t be prouder to call her my friend as she’s an absolute inspiration. And she’s sassy as hell.
