Leeds Loves Cocktails 2016

I love Leeds, I love cocktails and this pretty much means that the Leeds Loves Cocktails festival is my dream come true. I was invited to the #LLC16 press event at Headrow House to hear all about what’s going on this year (and take part in a cocktail making competition, because why the hell not?).

Leeds Loves Cocktails is a week long event in June which I strongly suggest you get written in your diaries and draw stars around as it’s not to be missed. It’s all about drinking better, not more, which is a philosophy I am 100% down with (and should probably put into practise when it comes to my recent consumption of Sauvignon Blanc). Over 40 bars in Leeds are getting on it from 6th – 12th June and they all have their own special cocktail menu for the occasion.

Over the week, there will be tastings, seminars, parties and other events going on across the city which I’d say is pretty damn exciting if you’re a cocktail drinker – especially as the wristbands mean you get the cocktail menu drinks for £4.50 each. Not bad, right? The final events schedule is still being finalised but last years’ looks pretty damn amazing so I can’t wait to get myself down to some of the events.

The press night was definitely something different. A ton of us went down to hear all about what Leeds Loves Cocktails would be getting up to, but did we know that we’d be put into teams and made to compete? Now that was a twist. Think Hunger Games but in a cocktail bar. It got competitive.

I was teamed up with Ellie and we were mentored by the lovely Niall from The Hedonist Project. Our team were tasked at making a cocktail using Woodford Reserve Bourbon and needless to say, we nailed it with our ‘Adult and Blackberry Crumble’ (recipe post to follow, revealing all of our secrets and newfound mixology skills). Each team and their mentor presented their drinks to the judges and Ellie and I won! We were so excited as our cocktail will be being served in Oporto Bar, down Call Lane, for the duration of Leeds Loves Cocktails – naturally I will be dragging everyone I know in there to try it. I also got filmed for Made in Leeds too, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

I’m definitely looking forward to Leeds Loves Cocktails this year and I think it’s definitely worth getting a wristband as it’s the opportunity to try new places and learn a bit more about what you’re drinking. Let me know what you’re planning on doing during Leeds Loves Cocktails as I may just see you around!
