Strictly M&Co

It seems like everyone is doing the 20s thing this Christmas! I’ve already been to one 1920s themed birthday party and I still have my Gatsby-style work do coming up next week, so I was pretty excited when M&Co invited me and a group of bloggers to see their flapper-inspired collection and learn to do the Charleston.

I’m not sure what I was more excited about – dressing up in a flapper dress (complete with feather boa and headband, of course), or learning the dance. I’ve wanted to try on a fringed dress like this for ages but I never seem to see them whilst I’m out shopping. Now I’ve seen them in real life, I no longer think of fringed dresses as being ‘flapper fancy dress’ as they would be so easy to just wear on a night out. They’re surprisingly flattering due to the movement of the fringing and M&Co do plus sizes too.

Once we’d played dress up, it was on to the lesson which was with an instructor from The Dance Studio in Leeds. I realised at this point that I was dressed entirely inappropriately for the occasion – I just assumed everyone would wear jeans... nope, everyone but me in sportswear. Well played Lizi. Anyway, as we were all absolute beginners, she broke it down to the absolute basics and after the hour we actually had a routine to perform! Obviously, we absolutely smashed it and you’ll probably be seeing us replacing the professionals on Strictly next year. (Maybe).

Some of the moves were pretty tricky but we all had a really good time learning them – I definitely underestimated what hard work it would be!

Here’s a few photos of the girls and I in action – enjoy!

Have you ever tried doing the Charleston before?

*Please note that the images do not belong to me - I was too busy Charleston-ing to take photos!
