Summer Loving

Summer loving

It’s getting to that time of year, where the optimism of summer is starting to creep in. We’re beginning to risk going out without a jacket (occasionally still backfires), realised that it’s about time we started painting our toenails again and wearing dresses to work is no longer a risk (jokes, this isn’t me, I don’t do dresses, ever).

And as we’re all topped up with the optimism that comes with Vitamin D, I thought I’d put together a list of the best things about pre-summer.

1. All it takes is a walk to work in the sunshine and everyone’s cheery. Fact.

2. But getting your outfit on point is a daily challenge – wearing anything thicker than a blouse and you’re sweaty but anything sleeveless is a recipe for getting chilly.

3. Office air-con wars have started. No temperature will please everyone. Ever.

4. Icecream is a perfectly acceptable treat, all of the time.

5. Eating salad on a lunchtime (which I do all year round), now looks normal. Even if everyone assumes that you must be on some form of holiday diet, when really, you just like salad.

6. The first beer garden weekend of the year happens around now and that’s a novelty that keeps your spirits up for a good week. Spontaneous beer gardens are even better. Especially with green-coloured fish bowls.

7. Every night out can start with your summer anthems. And by ‘anthems’, I don’t mean the classics, I mean the songs that remind you of summers which passed in a haze of VKs when you were young and carefree. ‘Good Times’ by Roll Deep is where it’s at.

8. Suddenly everyone gets skin-obsessed and races to the Body Shop for all of the sweet-scented butters.

9. Being healthy becomes so much easier as nobody actually wants to spend their weekends binge-watching Netflix and binge-eating Pringles.

10. Everyone starts festival-talk and the world divides between those who do and don’t camp. (I’m team ‘I’d love to come but I can’t afford a hotel’).

11. Shopping centres become awash with identical teenage girls every weekend, wearing last years’ skorts, a crop top and a flower garland.

12. Leaving work/the gym/the pub on an evening when it’s still light is the best feeling in the world.

Are you feeling the summer vibes already?
