Let's put York on the fashion map.

Fashion City York
Fashion City York is happening this weekend and this post is really to tell anyone who’s in or around York all you need to know.

There’s something for everyone and a few surprises for those who are in the city centre this weekend. We’re talking fashion shows, flashmobs and a vintage fair.

On Friday night, Hobbs on Davygate is having a ‘Night in for MacMillan’ between 7-9pm, and there will be shopping and some fizz – a perfect opportunity to go along with friends, donate some money to a good cause and shop at your leisure.

Coppergate will be hosting a variety of fashion shows between 11am – 4pm on Saturday the 17th of May showcasing collections from several highstreet brands. These are all free to watch so it’s worth popping down to see how the outfits are styled up and to get some seasonal inspiration.

I do not own this image

Marks and Spencer on Parliament street will be hosting a free fashion show on Saturday too – the time is TBC.

I love a live fashion window – why see clothes on a mannequin when you can see them on an actual person? Keep an eye out for Fenwicks, Coppergate, French Connection, Davygate, Malton Brown’s, Davygate, Browns, Davygate. Warehouse, Coney Street and LK Bennett, Low Petergate as when you look in the windows, they might be looking right back at you.

Throughout Sunday, the York Wedding Network will be performing a series of flashmobs in the city centre. Though of course flashmobs are all about the element of surprise, head to the Fashion City York info stand in St Sampson’s Square for a head’s up.

There will be some fantastic local designers showcasing their collects in the Pitcher and Piano. Local milliner, and a good friend of mine, Faye Grosvenor of Grosvenor Design will be there alongside dress designer Charlotte Lucy.

This is Faye's first silk flower fascinator and her work will be on display in the Pitcher and Piano

York Does Vintage will be setting up a vintage emporium in the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall on Sunday which will be a fantastic event. Make-up artist Faye Robertson will be there doing makeovers there too (she’s lovely, I met her at a Fashion City York networking event) and there will be a vintage tearoom (yay, cake!).

Of course York is famous for its history and Fairfax House will be doing an exhibition on accessorising the Georgian’s.

And a weekend of fashion needs some good music so Purple Mafia will be keeping shoppers entertained on Saturday afternoon. Winner.

So it’s a pretty packed weekend. If you’re from York or visiting York this weekend, step away from the new John Lewis and get yourself into town for some shopping.
