Witness the fitness? And a giveaway!

Misfit Shine 2 Giveaway
Women's Running 10k Leeds 2016

Oh the irony of this post title, as right now I have very little fitness to witness.

The end of 2016 saw my transformation from 10k race survivor (by the skin of my teeth, it was very much touch and go at some points) to someone who just didn’t want to go to the gym. Not ideal. I didn’t just fall off the bandwagon, it came back, ran me over and for about 2 months, exercise was replaced by prosecco. Zero regrets.

However, after being reunited with my scales shortly after Christmas, I decided to sort my life out in a massive wave of NEW YEAR, NEW ME motivation. Let’s face it, we can scream body confidence messages from the rooftops but a sassy attitude doesn’t reflect in the state of your arteries when you know you’re overweight. And that’s where I’m at right now – feeling more than a little chubby.

I’ve teamed up with Fenetic Wellbeing for their #FeneticFitness campaign which is all about getting back into exercise – perfect for me after my *catastrophic* minor blip before Christmas.

I love that the campaign is all about empowering people to get back into exercise as whether you’ve had two months, two years or twenty years out of the game, it’s really bloody hard. Their products are great as they sell electric bikes so if your fitness is low/knees are dodgy (hi, hello, that would be me) but you’re still keen to try it, they’re a great transition. Other things which are great for getting into exercise include the Couch to 5k podcasts for new runners (I did this and it’s how I made it to running a 5k non-stop) or getting an activity tracker (LIKE THE ONE I’M GIVING AWAY, HINT HINT), to see how many steps you’re doing a day.

When it comes to staying on track, there are three things which I’m going to be doing this year to make sure that I end 2017 in a better physical state than I did in 2016:

1. Remember why I’m doing it. I’m trying to get fit because I want a better muscle to fat ratio. I’m doing it because I want to be able to run the races I’ve signed up to for later this year and get a PB. I’m doing it because I want to look in the mirror and fancy myself a bit more. Common theme: I’m doing it for me, nobody else.

2. Ask my friends and family to support me. Whilst this should be a no-brainer as I like to think those who love me would like me to be healthy, I want to be told ‘well done’ when I turn down a glass of wine or piece of pizza, not ‘you’re being boring’.

3. Do it as a group. I’m doing an 8 week challenge with my gym to really give myself a kick up the arse to getting back into exercise. As let’s face it, when you have to share your before and after photos with a group of strangers, you can’t just not put the effort in.

As part of the #FeneticFitness campaign, I’m giving you the chance to make your own changes by giving away a Misfit Shine 2 Activity Tracker, in rose gold – all you have to do is fill out this Rafflecopter form to be in with a chance.

So tell me, what are your tips for getting yourself back into exercise this year? Let me know in the comments.

  1. instagram link not working (use this one :) )

  2. I think you should start off slowly, gradually building up activity.

  3. I run an exercise class every week so it's part of my job (and I love it - it's like having my own disco every Monday!)
