London Town

Kingsway Hotel London Afternoon Tea
I went to London! But not for fashion week. Obvs.

As I'm writing this, I have my iPad out in the waiting room at Derby Station as I have another hour to go before my connecting train back to Leeds. Oh East Midlands trains, you are frankly shite. FYI 5 hour train journeys are not my forte.

But I digress. LONDON.

Today (or last yesterday as it will be by the time you read this) I've been in London with my sister and two of my cousins, so I thought it would be nice to share a few things that we got up to.

We decided to break from tradition and not get absolutely smashed and went for an absolutely lovely and blog-worthy afternoon tea at Kingsway Hall Hotel, near Covent Garden. We arrived, were welcomed into the restaurant and taken to a lovely, spacious table and chose our teas. We all went for the normal afternoon tea, and at the time of booking, there had been an offer on so we got it for £16 each, which was already outstanding value for such a luxurious environment but it got better - it was essentially an all you can eat afternoon tea.

We were told when ordering that they would bring us our afternoon teas and there would be unlimited refills of tea and also, they would bring us more scones and cakes when we wanted them! Sandwiches were at an extra charge, but as lovely as they were, we were all about the cake.

Charl and I went for the gluten free option, whereas Emma and Caroline went for the regular afternoon tea. Both were equally lovely and it was nice to see a variety on the cake stands. The gluten free sandwiches had the same fillings as the regular option (egg mayo, salmon, cucumber and something I've already forgotten) and we both had equally delicious scones with jam and clotted cream. The cakes and pastries included mini tarts, lemon cake, ginger cake, fruit cake, a mousse and a few other lovely bits too.

The staff were fabulous - they were attentive but only seemed to appear when we wanted more tea and fresh plates of cakes and scones. Overall, it was a fabulous hotel and the best afternoon tea that I've ever had!

We spent the rest of the day (after being there 2 1/2 hours but never once feeling rushed) mooching around Covent Garden and then finished the day with a glass of wine before heading back. I can't think of a better way to have spent a Saturday than with these lovely ladies :)
