I'm back... and I've joined Slimming World.

Slimming World
So recently, I’ve been a rubbish blogger. It has been WEEKS since I last posted anything. You know when you feel like you have nothing exciting to say, life gets in the way and you don’t want to chat shit for the sake of it? Yeah, that. Sorry guys.

But anyway, I’m back, that’s the important bit.

And things are changing, big time.

I’ve joined Slimming World and it’s actually working which let’s face it, makes it blog-worthy.

Like a lot of people, I had my own personal tipping point that made me go and surprisingly, it wasn’t an unflattering photo or bumping into an ex whilst looking like crap: it was a Tinder message. A random guy sent me a message which likened me to Jabba the Hut from Star Wars. Yes, I heard that snigger as you read that, but it got to me. I was embarrassed when I told my friends why I’d deleted the app, I was upset that a complete stranger would send me a message which was just plain nasty and it made me realise that I wanted to change my appearance.

And I’m doing that for me. Not because ‘Mat from Tinder’ was mean, not because I’m trying to impress anyone, it’s all for me, my health and my self esteem.

So I joined Slimming World and all I can say is I wish I’d done it sooner.

The plan is easy:

You eat as much ‘free’ and ‘super-free’ food as you like, two healthy extras and up to 15 syns. Free foods are things like pasta, rice and lean meat, super free are fruit and veg, one healthy extra is fibre, the other is dairy and syns are the naughty things. It’s high fibre, everything in moderation and covers all the food groups. Simple really.

A free meal can look like this veggie frittata...

Syns can be things like this...

And it works. 2 weeks in, I got my half stone award.

I had my 5th weigh in last night and I got my 1 stone award and I even got ‘Slimmer of the Week’ after my 3 ½ lb loss this week.

I’ve never followed a proper diet or plan before in my life and over the last 5 weeks, I can honestly say that I haven't felt hungry at all. I used to struggle to get my 5 a day and now I’m getting 7-8. I don’t rely on bread to fill me up. I still go out for tea, I still drink alcohol on weekends and I’m still losing weight each week. What I’m getting at is that I still live my life. I don’t miss out.

For example, last weekend I went to Starbucks and to a BBQ and kept on plan.

I’m not at that point where I want to start posting before and after photos but I’m feeling the difference. I can run further, my clothes are getting looser and I’m feeling so much healthier.

I go to a weekly group and we weigh in (not in front of everyone!) and then go round and discuss things we've tried that week, what our aims are and generally motivate each other. During the week, support is constant on our Facebook group and from our group leader, Kath. It's all about having a network of like-minded people - nobody is there to judge and everyone is in the same boat.

I’ll be carrying on with posts about my progress as the weeks continue as this is the kind of journey that I’ve seen across the blogging community quite a lot and everyone loves to have a nosey at how other people are doing! I may even share some Slimming World recipes if I ever get round to doing some proper cooking and in a few months, I’ll be doing some before and after shots.

What do you think about my journey so far? Have you tried Slimming World? If anyone has any tips, I’d love to hear them! If anyone has blogged about weightloss, I’d love to give it a read!

  1. Well done on your success so far, that's amazing!
And good on you for making the decision and doing it for the right reasons.
I totally believe in SW and WW, they can do great things for people. I used SW to loose a good % of my baby weight, then went it alone. They are deffo the right ways to manage your weight and change your lifestyle, compared to some 'fad' dieting ways out there like juicing..
    Good luck to you. :)

    1. Thank you so much, I really appreciate the support of people who genuinely understand. So many people think of groups like SW and WW as a way to make money and they genuinely change the lives of so many people! It's a sustainable lifestyle and I genuinely believe it has changed my life and the way I think about nutrition!

Keep an eye out for future posts, I'm hoping to blog about my whole journey :) xx

  2. Good luck, Lizi! In the past I've found SW to be a very healthy way of losing weight. I'm sorry that man was such a c-word to you. His opinion means absolutely NOTHING to anyone and besides, only someone with their own insecurities would attempt to put someone else down xx
